Thorn was curled up inside his massive cave. When a servant dragon or creature came to him he just roared. That was his sign to tell them to go away. It was the middle of the day and Thorn had to go hunt for his lunch. So he got up and flew out of his mountanious home and into the open sky, which was full of other dragons and serpentine birds. The vast expanse of trees below him were dark green and were full of creatures for him to hunt. But if he just landed in on them it wouldn't be fun nor would he have much of chance of succeeding. Thorn, as usual flew to the other side of the Fores of Silence, letting out slight roars on the way.
When he landed some trees shook and the nearby animals fell over with fright. After all they knew he was one of the two mightiest dragons in all the land. One day many, many years ago Thorn struck a deal with them. This deal said that they have to give sacrifices of their own people to him to eat once a month or he would hunt moer of them then he needed to, they wisely have been complying with him for a long time.
